11 · Used EV check

Build a used EV inspection scorecard

Organize the evidence collected before buying a used EV. Six equally weighted checks produce an evidence score and a specific follow-up list; the score does not certify a vehicle's condition.

Look for a dated diagnostic report and its conditions.
Check service records against the vehicle's identity and mileage.
Check charging operation and connector condition.
Request accident, repair and title records.
Inspect tire wear and brake condition.
Confirm warranty terms and outstanding recalls for this vehicle.
Rate the evidence you have for each inspection item.

A score organizes questions for a seller or technician. It is not a vehicle diagnosis or guarantee of condition.

How to use this tool

  1. Review each category using written records, an inspection or an observed test.
  2. Mark verified only when supporting evidence is available; use partial or missing for unresolved concerns.
  3. Calculate, then follow up every listed item with the seller or an independent technician.

Worked example

Four verified checks and two follow-ups

Battery health report

Warranty and recall status

Expected result Good evidence coverage · 10 / 12 · follow up charging and tire/brake checks

Four verified categories earn 8 points and two partial categories earn 2, for 10/12. The incomplete charging test and tire/brake evidence still appear in the follow-up list.

How to read this result

10–12 means good evidence coverage, 7–9 calls for follow-up, and 0–6 leaves several checks open. A serious concern can outweigh a high total; every category has equal points, not equal risk.

How it is calculated

  • Verified evidence earns 2 points, partial evidence earns 1, and unchecked, missing, or concerning evidence earns 0. The six checks total 12 points.

Assumptions

  • Each of the six categories is weighted equally for a simple checklist score.

What this estimate cannot tell you

  • The score does not replace an independent inspection, diagnostic scan, title check, or written warranty confirmation.
